My Chinese name is 罗宇慧 (pinyin: luó yǔ huì). Its meaning is quite bold, saying that I have all the wisdom in the universe. I don’t have so much wisdom in reality, but I do like studying the brain to know about the foundations of our intelligence, emotions, behaviors, and feelings. “Sunny” has been my English name since childhood, and I find it suits me well. Now even my Chinese friends tend to call me “小太阳” (it means “little sun”). I am introverted, but I can be full of positive energy just like the sun.
My hometown is Hangzhou, a romantic city on the east coast of China and close to Shanghai. After I graduated from Hangzhou Foreign Languages School (HFLS), I went to Fudan University for a B.S. in Biological Sciences. I am now a Ph.D. student in Biology at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Co-mentored by Dr. Cory Root and Dr. Elina Zuniga, my thesis is about neuroimmunology. My CV (in English/Chinese) is linked here in case you want to know more about my research and path in science.
I have many hobbies. I love painting, techo journaling, photography, DIY, and Korean soap operas. I am a huge foodie and I absolutely love coffee. You can know more about my life outside of the labs, majorly photography works and food journals, by exploring the Photography and Blog page, respectively.
I am a current member of Stories of WiN (Women in Neuroscience), a project that highlights the stories of female neuroscientists by interview podcasts and written profiles. I organize a team of Chinese translators and run the WeChat official account for Stories of WiN as an editor. Welcome to subscribe!
